Recolight is the UK’s specialist WEEE compliance scheme for the recycling of Gas Discharge Lamps.
Funded by over 100 lamp producer members, it represents the overwhelming proportion of lamps put on the UK market. As a not for profit scheme, Recolight are dedicated to keeping lamps out of landfill. We collect all lamps regardless of manufacturer and can do so free of charge. Recolight have funded the recycling of over 125 million lamps, preventing half a tonne of a tonne of mercury from entering landfill.
Recolight have over a decade of experience in performing these tasks for non-domestic customers and have recycled as many products than their competitors put together so far.
The safe and sound reproduction of lamps and luminaires is becoming as important as their efficiency in the eyes of the law.
Recolight are now in their 13th year of existence after being established in 2005, by the lighting industry themselves with WEEE regulations beginning from 2007.
Over 36,000 tonnes of more than 250 million lamps have been recycled by Recolight and they stage in excess of 750 waste collections each month, at over 3,200 collection points.
Lamp recycling has almost doubled during this decade and Recolight are recycling one every second including LED, fluorescent and high-intensity tubes, bulbs and luminaires.
Their compliance scheme requires producers of EEE to arrange and pay for the correct treatment of recycling their end of life products.
Recolight assume that responsibility for its members, who currently stand at over 180 and have funded them as a not-for-profit organisation since their inception.
They have gone from strength to strength and has been responsible for collecting and recycling more items of WEEE than any other sector.
